A Stylish Autumn Wedding at Aswarby Rectory

Rachel and Alex held their autumn wedding at Aswarby Rectory; a Grade 2 listed Georgian building in Lincolnshire. This is a building I’ve fallen for over the last few years: with its period features and calm colour pallet I could photograph it every week and still find joy. The couple listed the staircase as one of their favourite features of Aswarby Rectory, so I was excited to see how it would be dressed. Knowing Lucy from Studio Mortar, there would be a fresh take on autumn wedding colours. I was not disappointed; the deep burgundy and russet colours were there, but also a really interesting texture, with deep purple shrubbery. This added a really sophisticated twist to the usual autumn pallet that you might usually see at weddings and I just loved capturing its beauty.

Why do Autumn weddings work at Aswarby Rectory?

Autumn is a great time for weddings anyway. It’s probably one of my favourite seasons in which to shoot weddings. I love the colours and the low light which has a warmth to it. Since Aswarby added the glass house to the back of the rectory it has really elevated its out of season game. Now there is a space for your guests to stay warm and dry, whatever the weather. It also really looks like it has always been there and is a charming, light filled space for your drinks reception.

Other features of this autumn Aswarby Rectory wedding that made sense

The candles added a romantic and warm vibe to the wedding and really added to the autumnal atmosphere.

Rachael wore a long sleeved dress and so was able to enjoy using the garden for the drinks reception, without a cover up in October.

Using the glasshouse at Aswarby Rectory for the speeches in Autumn was genius. It used the most of the daylight, whilst keeping their guests warm. It also enhanced the photography as the light was really beautiful.

They had an extra long afternoon drinks reception, again making use of the available daylight at this autumn wedding.

They sat down for dinner just as it was getting dark, so the candlelight looked particularly pretty in their photos.

The Band, The Indie Killers, got everyone involved and really got the dance floor rocking.

The sparklers added that extra party highlight in between the band sets, and was a great way to conclude the wedding photography.
