A modern wedding at Stone Barn Cotswolds

Last September I shot a fun, modern wedding at Stone Barn, Cotswolds. From the vintage car, to the sixties flicked bob, the Universal Works suit and the evening fedora – everything about this wedding at Stone Barn was stylish and screamed out modern wedding.

Freya and Fabian were set on enjoying their day and like so many modern couples didn’t want to spend much time doing portraits. Instead we grabbed a few couple pictures here and there, in between moments. I love this style. You can see from what we caught, the energy and laughter was real and they genuinely went in and spent loads of time laughing with their guests. Also the portraits are fun and light hearted which really matched their style.

How I approach a modern wedding at Stone Barn Cotswolds

As there is no onsite room, couples choose a venue off location to get ready in. I usually start with one person at prep and then leave once they are ready to meet the other at Stone Barn, before the ceremony. This photography timeline allows me to capture your guests arriving at Stone Barn too. If you have a beautiful car I will capture you arriving at the venue in it. By thinking about your timeline in advance we can make sure that your photography fits in seamlessly to your day.

After this the day flows seamlessly from one part of the barn to the other. Historical barn to modern wedding reception. It’s such a great venue to photograph.

Do your wedding your way at Stone Barn.

The Stone Barn was well used and I captured both a modern style ceremony as well as a traditional tea ceremony for Freya and Fabian.

A modern touch to many weddings these days is to ask a friend to conduct your ceremony for you. There is something extra special about a wedding ceremony led by your friends. It feels different and more modern in the best possible way. More and more of my couples are choosing someone who really knows them to tell their story. It brings a really relaxed and heartfelt energy to the day. Ceremonies like Freya and Fabians more often evoke tears, laughter and joy, which makes for really meaningful images. This approach puts connection and authenticity right at the centre of the modern couple’s wedding day.

The tea ceremony was an added bonus to this wedding and i loved photographing the family members who had flown in from across the world. The highlight was Freya’s reaction when she was given the “Secret recipe book” and the laughter from all the guests.

A modern and historical wedding venue: Stone Barn

Set in the peaceful Cotswolds countryside, Stone Barn seamlessly blends historical and modern vibes. The ceremony room built in original Cotswolds Stone, is warm and inviting. When you move into the back of the barn, the modern mezzanine space and dining area is light and airy and really brings the outside in. Plus, let’s not forget that starry ceiling which adds beautiful bokeh to the backdrop of your wedding photography. This constant interplay between old and new, historical and modern is the perfect juxtaposition. It is honestly just a dream to capture it in camera for my clients.

Stone Barn, with its wonderful blend of modern and historical vibes, did its job wonderfully for this wedding. When it rained, everyone just piled inside and enjoyed the Moroccan style mezzanine area for the drinks reception and we were able to use the Stone barn for group shots under the flower ring.

Photography for modern couples at Stone Barn

There are so many possibilities for modern and stylish photography at Stone Barn. Freya and Fabian weren’t really into the romantic, cliche wedding photography portraits so we worked on getting the absolute necessary frames and then capturing them as moments happened. My favourite images are from when I dared Freya and Fabian to run around their wedding car in the rain. Freya has already pulled out a Fedora to wear (talk about modern choices!) so I knew her hair was safe. Plus it took literally twenty seconds and we were done. You can see from their smiles that they enjoyed their modern portrait session.
