Kirsty and Matt’s Cotswolds church wedding with outdoor reception was happy, fun and upbeat, even if it wasn’t outdoors for very long.

Despite the weather being glorious in the run up to the wedding, on the day it poured. Literally from the moment the ceremony was over until the very touch of dusk was upon us, little droplets of rain graced the earth. NOT that this put a dampener on the day of course. In true British style we popped a pashmina over our perfectly coiffed hair and pushed on!

The thing is, you can’t be around Kirsty for long without feeling happy: She has this infectious smile and positive attitude which never seems to fade, When you’re smiling – the whole world smiles with you! And everybody was smiling with Kirsty and Matt on their wedding day.

I definitely think the colourful blooms chosen by Kirsty helped! Bright, bold flowers in the wedding bouquet and bridesmaids’ flowers gave us pops of colour throughout the day.

The church ceremony was just around the corner from the reception at St Martin’s cricket ground, in the Cotswolds countryside.

The groom, Matt, wore a blue suit with bow tie. The bride, Kirsty, opted for a backless silk dress. Both looked stunning.

Memorably, Kirsty actually forgot her bouquet and a local resident whizzed off, back to the bridal prep cottage, to get it for her. What a legend! The bridesmaids looked amazing, with the colourful flowers popping against the grey dresses. And I loved watching the flower girls compare their flower posies.

The wedding ceremony finished and the rain started!

I remember stepping out of the church and thinking that if we didn’t get the confetti done quickly we would get rained off. What I didn’t know is that it would rain for the next 4 hours!

What do you do if it rains on your wedding day?

I get asked this question all the time. Brides are obsessed with it. My answer is always the same: Roll with it. If you didn’t choose a venue that is particularly nice inside, then we’ll make the best of it outside or somewhere sheltered. For Kirsty and Matt’s portraits we took shelter under this canopy of trees (which was a God send). We got great pictures, you can’t tell that it was raining and nobody actually even got wet.

But rain it did. So everyone got stuck into the free bar.

British outdoor wedding with hay bale sofa and fire pits:

I love it that AS SOON AS the rain stopped, everyone poured outside. Kirsty and Matt had gone to a lot of trouble to make the outdoor element of their wedding look particularly special. They had hay bales arranged as a giant outdoor sofa, fire pits and festoon lighting. And the most glorious flower arch, which we managed to squeeze a pic under JUST before it got dark.

Let’s get the wedding party started

Once the bride and groom have done a quick shuffle to their favourite track, it gives the rest of the party free reign to jump and dance around like crazed animals.

And then – when they’ve had even more to drink, it has become tradition to give them fire to wiggle around. But hey – it makes a pretty picture!
