A wedding with Personal Touches: Asylum Chapel.
Are you wondering what personal touches you will add to your wedding? How to make your wedding talk about who you are? Well Jordan and Ed’s wedding at Asylum Chapel , followed by a Dulwich Village pub reception, will get your mind ticking. Scroll through for wedding outfits to make Aunty Maureen look twice. A special ring handover. A wonderful ceremony that involves all their nearest and dearest, colourful biodegradable confetti and more
When shooting at Asylum Chapel, one of the things I’m looking to capture is the look on the guests’ faces when they see inside for the first time. It’s such a magical venue and will no doubt take your guests by surprise when they encounter those crumbly walls.
The light at Asylum Chapel is one of the reasons it stands out as one of my favourite venues to shoot. Not for the faint hearted, it’s an atmospheric venue with deep shadows and beams of light streaming through those high windows.
Wedding Personal Touches
One of the first ways you can add personal touches to your wedding is with the flowers. You don’t have to do what everyone else is doing. Jordan and Ed are based in Africa and so they used colours and flower species to reflect this. I just love the dark burgundy with the yellows and oranges.
A Personalised Wedding Ceremony
This is where this wedding stood out from the crowd. The wedding ceremony was next level. Talk about tears, laughter and full on utter joy! Bex The Celebrant was awesome.
Bex the Celebrant was exceptional! She had the room in the palm of her hand with hilarious stories about how Jordan and Ed met, their dating process and how the question was popped. It’s just so refreshing to watch a ceremony like this unfold and the joy it brings to the couple and all their guests. Back in the 2000s people used to say they wanted to get through the ceremony to get to the party. These days the ceremony is as enjoyable as the rest of the day.
Dylan the Dog was such a god boy. In a flurry of fur and the waggiest tail you ever saw, he ran to the front of the aisle to hand over the all important wedding rings. Look at that face!
The hand tieing ceremony
This literally awesome. Jordan and Ed chose their best friends to each bring a ribbon and do a small speech. The ribbons were all different colours and decorated with personal quotes and charms that reflected the relationship these friends had with the couple. Somehow – quite like magic – Bex did her thing and the ribbons were tied in a knot to symbolise the strength of their relationship.
The wedding reception
There’s no better way to transport your guests from A to B in London than on a double decker bus. Want my advice? Bring the tunes and the fizz and get your vibe on. Make it a part of the entertainment rather than just a mode of transport. With the right energy it will be a part of your day you won’t ever forget.
More personal touches: wedding outfit changes
If you can’t bare the disappointment of Mum and wear a wedding dress (but really you’re desperate to wear something more YOU) go for the outfit change. Jordan clearly felt very happy about her choice of jumpsuit for her London pub wedding reception. She called it the “jumpsuit of dreams” and said she just felt so comfortable in it for eating and dancing. I just loved her platform candles too and so asked her about them – they’re Russell and Bromley and they were super comfortable. It’s not often I see a bride make it through the whole evening and still be in her wedding shoes! As for Ed’s Doc Martins… need we say more?
London Street Portraits
Before the wedding Jordan and Ed felt like they might be a bit shy to do portraits in the streets of London. Maybe it was the fizz, maybe it was the vibe of the day? But either way they got right on board and utterly rocked it. By the way – you don’t have to be in a field to rock a golden hour. Personally I’m loving a golden hour shoot with a London bus in the background.
