Wedding Celebrant
You may have noticed there is a trend where people are using a friend as their wedding celebrant. They’re bucking the normal route of having a registrar at a ceremony venue, doing the formal bit a few days earlier and then having a close friend or family member has their celebrant.
There are so many reasons why using a wedding celebrant is a good idea. Let me tell you about a few of them:
- You can choose to have your ceremony ANYWHERE if you have a wedding celebrant. A pub. The woods. Your favourite rooftop terrace. Wherever floats your boat. You could even choose The Boat pub, like Grace and Mark.
- No-one knows you as well as the person you choose. Nobody will connect to the stories you have to tell like your best friends and family. They also will have personal insight into your stories of how you met and the dates you went on. Grace and Mark’s celebrant friend knew them so well, he was able to add in his own extra details to their story, making it an experience for the couple too.
- You can worry less about timings if you have a friend as your wedding celebrant. Chances are they will also be a guest at the wedding, so won’t have to dash off to their next gig.
There are also a whole load of amazing pros out there too. A fantastic wedding celebrant makes for a fantastic ceremony. Let’s be honest. The ceremony is what it’s all about. However, not every friendship group has someone with the balls (and it DOES take balls) to stand up and host such an important moment. So have a search around and find what works for you. I follow a few wedding celebrants on Insta if you think you are headed that way and want a nudge in the right direction.
Grace and Mark – pub wedding with friend as wedding celebrant.
Grace and Mark’s pub wedding was an absolute blast. I was instantly welcomed into this troop of wonderful, creative people and I honestly feel humbled to have been a part of their honest and personal wedding. Yes, they had a friend as a wedding celebrant – and it was an absolute hit! It allowed them to read extracts from they favourite books and tell naughty stories, as well as declare their love for one another in front of all their nearest and dearest.
The ceremony was so special, the speeches were hilarious and the party pumped. The latter MAY have had something to do with the eternally open bar… who knows?
I hope that you get that energy of the day, from the images I created for them.
Some kind words from Grace and Mark:
Our photos have given us the chance to relive our favourite day whenever we want to, that’s an amazing thing. Michelle was fantastic start to finish, kind, in charge and right in the mix of the dance floor! The moments you have captured between us; little looks, hand holds, dancing and smiling faces will always remind us of the love we were surrounded by on the day.
It’s the little details you caught: of my nana holding my sisters hand and me and my mum laughing so hard our smiles look exactly the same are so special to us. Thank you! Your photos of us together make us feel amazing and full of love when we look at them. WE LOVE THEM
Why did you choose Michelle? Because we felt she captured the most natural moments! We didn’t want to spend hours posing for photos, we wanted the fun off the cuff moments to be captured too and my goodness she delivered!
Do you have any favourite photos? What are they of and why do you love them?
The natural ones where we’re just chatting and laughing and dancing are THE BEST. There is also one of our hands as we’re holding each others walking through the room that makes Grace cry every time she looks at it. All the feelings are in that one photograph.
I love to shoot weddings like these: with chilled couples and party vibes. Are you having a wedding celebrant? Do you want to enjoy every aspect of your wedding day? Then look no further – give me a shout to see if I’m free for your wedding date.
