Ben and Emily were like the ideal client from day dot. I received a phone call from Emily saying she was looking for a photographer who could deal with a different type of wedding, in a theatre with crazy things going on. And I knew immediately we would work together.
When we finally met at the engagement shoot it was like meeting old friends from way back – conversation flowed and the time flew. And before I knew it it was time to leave. During this shoot I learnt everything I needed to know about these two: they were mad about each other, had creative souls and they had a story to tell. You see Ben’s grandparents had met at that very theatre and got married, as had Ben’s parents. And now Ben and Emily had met, become friends and eventually fallen in love working at the theatre they would get married in. Now I’m a sucker for romance so after hearing this fairy tale I was hooked and couldn’t wait for the big day.
The day itself was going to be quite the unique wedding: A woodland and literature themed ceremony, aerialists over the dinner tables, the ‘Crazy Hat Game’ and a photo booth to supersede all others. When it’s all down on paper, it sounds so exciting, but these two pulled it all off seamlessly. With the help of the stage management team the wedding ran like an actual theatre production! Lights on at the right times, curtains pulled… but they also kept it very very real. Love, love and more love flooded the theatre. Ben cried enough tears to flood the theatre anyway lol.
This was the perfectly planned winter wedding in the sense that it really didn’t matter what the weather did that day. As it happened is was absolutely freezing, but the was no need for any shivering. We had all the space we needed for some romantic and edgy portraits in the theatre.
Ben and Emily, I absolutely LOVED being part of your day – I will remember it forever. Here are a selection of my favourite frames, telling the story of your day xoxo
If this floats your boat and you are thinking about getting wed in a unique and creative way, give me a call. I love weddings done your own way. Free spirited vibes for the win.
