The Asylum Chapel // Bermondsey Yard Cafe.
Abigail & Andrew: “since we’ve had the photos we’ve been going through them and reliving the day and every moment has been captured perfectly!”
This wedding is going down as one of my favourite ever weddings. From the moment I was met with a huge grin at the front door by Abbie, until the moment we said goodbye at Bermondsey Yard Cafe I had a ball. Sometimes the energy is just right – and this was one of those days.
The Air BnB where the bridal party got ready in Brixton was absolutely gorgeous and just a stones throw from the tube station, but with the biggest garden ever! I was hard to believe the location was so central.
When I saw the Andrea Hawkes wedding dress hanging upstairs I knew it was the perfect dress for Abbie – classy and simple and very elegant. She looked so beautiful. I think there seems to be a trend towards brides choosing more simple, well cut dresses this season.
Abbie had left plenty of time for a few portraits in the garden before we left so we gathered the girls together to get some beautiful images. The bridesmaids wore different dresses in matching colours from ASOS. I love the sequins for photography!
Andrew was waiting at The Asylum Chapel. They had kept things very simple for the ceremony with regards to decoration. The Asylum speaks for itself. Instead they invested in a string quartet: Leo’s Strings, who filled the chapel with beautiful music.
It meant the whole focus was on Abigail and Andrew as they said their vows.
Outside, after the confetti line up, they had opted for a bar on wheels. The Travelling Gin Company brought their bar by bicycle and offered up refreshments. Meanwhile Abbie and Andrew cut their pork pie wedding cake and served that as a snack.
We snuck back inside whilst everyone was busy munching and slurping, to get some of those iconic Asylum Chapel portraits that everyone wants.
True to the London wedding style, Abbie and Andrew hired red double decker buses for their guests to enjoy the journey from The Asylum Chapel to Bermondsey St. The reception was at Bermondsey Yard Cafe, but we hopped off the bus early to get some edgy street portraits.
It was great to be back at Bermondsey Yard Cafe for a wedding reception. Abbie and Andrew had hired the entire venue, including the outside bar which was ideal.
The tables were all set up and named after beautiful houses.
Abbie and Andrew are both architects.
Their surname is ‘HOUSE’.

One thing I see much more of these days is brides doing a speech. I applaud brides who do a speech. I did a speech at my wedding. My husband and I have very different focusses and ways of doing things and I wanted to make sure that I got to say what I wanted to say to my friends and loved ones. AND I wanted to listen to what my husband had to say. Both of us united but individual too. It was great to see everyone cheer when both Abbie and Andrew had done their speeches.
The evening was upon us. Mr & Mrs House had arranged for a henna tattoo artist to come and decorate their guests. This was such an individual way to continue the celebrations before the first dance. And a very popular one too!
The Asylum Chapel followed by an urban London reception has to be one of THE BEST & COOLEST combos going for a wedding right now. If you are planning a similar wedding give me a call as I’d love to hear all about it.
