Alternative Wedding: DIY, Pink Suit, Wes Anderson & Animals.
When a couple contact me and tell me that they are having an alternative wedding my ears perk up. Then they say that they are getting married in a pink chapel, that the groom is making his own pink suit and that they have designed their stationary and basic theme on Wes Anderson movies. Then you say you will shoot their wedding! Whatever it takes.
Thankfully all it took was a quick Skype call and the deal was sealed. Then I just had to wait a year for the actual wedding. I kept in touch with Jimmy and Emma over the course of the year to see how the plans were rolling out, on socials as well as emails, so when the day finally came it felt like I was shooting the wedding of a cherished friend to be honest.
The details of this wedding blew me away. Between them Emma and Jimmy designed and made every little last detail, including their beautiful stationary, the bouquets, the wedding cake (which gave Emma blisters on her hands she had made so many macaroons) and the little boxes to put them in. Jimmy even tailored his own suit and Emma made the most gorgeous crystal hairpieces for herself and bridesmaids. I’m now the proud owner of one of Jimmy’s cleverly designed enamel pins, of the pink, tin chapel in which they got married.
Oh and Jimmy’s in a Rock band which, once he hit the dance floor, became apparent
So – here is a selection of my favourites for you to look through…
The Alternative wedding Chapel
The pink chapel is what makes Kent Life such an amazing wedding venue. It gives it that alternative wedding vibe that no other chapel in the whole UK can match. Pink and the outside and deliciously teal on the inside, it’s just screaming out for some cool portraits to be done in there. I love how they matched their entire colour scheme to the chapel.
When I talk about this venue providing an alternative wedding experience – did you expect time with alpacas? No – neither did I. But since they were there we just had to do an alternative wedding golden hour shoot with them in!

Oh my goodness Michelle, these are amazing. Thank you so much. You have captured Jimmy and I and the spirit of our wedding day perfectly – I’m crying happy tears! I knew as soon as we first spoke via Skype that you were the right photographer for us and I completely agree that as the months passed we built a friendship. On the day it definitely felt like you were just a friend and it felt natural to have you around; you were so fun, supportive, helpful and easy-going yet completely dedicated to getting amazing shots without interrupting the flow of the day. I cannot put into words how much I love these photos, thank you. xxx
