Welcome and HELLO

Hopefully you loved my creative wedding photography so now it’s time to check me out. Here I am in all my goofy glory. Mainly because I feel so awkward in front of the camera – the best I can do is act the fool. Know the feeling?

I’m Michelle and I’m a mummy to Oscar and Esmé, wife to Reece and photographer to many. I was born in Blackpool but have lived in Bedford for most of my life. Me and the hubby met at uni and following three years of hard work and debauchery and another few years of travel and work abroad, we finally settled in his home town. We had the kiddos, got a dog and an Edwardian town house a stone’s throw from the river. Hey presto – you have yourself a grown up life! We finally got married sixteen years after we had met in a restaurant overlooking Polzeath Beach – I’ll tell you why if you ask. I’m a bit of a romantic.

I’m happiest making memories with my family, dancing in the forest and cooking food for vast volumes of people to enjoy. We drag the children up mountains and gorges, and through woodlands and waves on the search for adventure. We go to Cornwall every year so if you’re getting married there call me now!

My current obsession is tennis so if I’m not available in the week it’s because I’m on court. The other hobby in my life is the house and I just love painting, decorating and re-arranging it to keep it feeling like home. I’m into dark walls with warm tones and natural materials.

However I am more than just a creative wedding photographer. Every year we treat Buzz to a UK family holiday. His preference is for a boutique hotel where he’s allowed a sausage at breakfast. So if you are looking for hints and tips for something similar, I’m your woman!

Why Creative Wedding Photography?

The first time I ever shot a wedding, was for a friend. I was a teacher at the time but she insisted that I do it for her as she said she loved the way I saw things. By the end of the day I knew that I was going to have a complete career change.

At university I studied Fine Art and this definitely comes through in my aesthetic influences. I’ve always loved the Baroque period with a single light source, which I often use when doing portraits. I’m also a big fan of pop art and graphic prints and love to creatively frame people in my photos. More obviously the photographic work of Sally Mann has always a been a huge influence on me and it is her work that directly influences my emotive black and white images. Added to this is the work of Cindy Sherman who’s cinematic film stills will forever influence my London shoots in particular.

And anyway – weddings are literally ace. What’s not to love? Gorgeous clothes, incredible scenes, people in love, little fluttery pieces of paper, Champagne. I’d have to be mad not to choose weddings.

I can’t tell you how grateful I feel to be able to work in a creative field, where every working day is a blank canvass. But you always know it’s going to be a happy ending.
